Over the past year, I’ve received a lot of correspondence from androphiles and readers who enjoyed Androphilia: A Manifesto. Many men asked me questions like:When can I hear you speak?
Will you be coming to my area?
Are there any gatherings of androphiles or groups in my area?
While I am pleased to announce that Androphilia has nearly sold through its first run of 3,000 copies less than one year after its release, the androphilia meme is still very young. Many androphiles have come forward, but the ones who have are spread around the world. And I’m just a regular guy holding down a regular job, not a celebrity author booked on speaking tours around the country. (Frankly, I prefer it that way.)

However, I’ve decided to host a private event this summer which will provide a small group of androphiles to meet me, and to meet each other. I hope that many of you who have written me over the past year will be able to attend. If you are interested, please read on.

Stag Meet 2008 will take place over two days in August, 2008.

Saturday, August 16

Day One – Excursions

Men will meet at a designated spot, possibly for breakfast, and then walk, drive or car pool to Portland destinations as desired. Possible outings include a mountain hike outside the Portland area. Some men may choose to organize an evening pub crawl in downtown Portland. Excursions will be optional, at the attendee’s expense, and will be planned and coordinated via a private message board space designated for men who have registered for the Day Two event.

Sunday, August 17

Day Two – Stag Meet and BBQ in the Park
Day Two will basically be a relaxed afternoon cookout in a wooded park with a bunch of like minded-guys.

While the intent is for the event to remain informal, I will give a brief presentation followed by a group Q/A, and I will be available to sign your copies of Androphilia if you choose to bring them along for that purpose. After that, we’ll cook up some burgers, down a few beers, shoot the shit and enjoy the day.

To give the event a distinctive character, I’m encouraging men to bring cigars or pipes and to wear an “old guy” hat. (Suggestions include summer caps, summer fedoras and bucket hats.) More on this later.

To passersby, the Stag Meet BBQ will probably look like an oddball company picnic without women or children–the conceptual opposite of exhibitionistic “we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it,” style gatherings of homos that the public is all too familiar with. That also means keeping the PDA to a minimum, fellas.

Making Reservations

Reservations are for the Day Two Stag Meet and BBQ in the Park only, but will include access to a private message board wherein you can participate in planning excursions with myself and other androphiles for Day One.
